Praise The Lord: Psalm 150
Did you know that the Hebrew word Halal is used in the Bible 165 times? According to www.biblestudytool.com, the word Halal means to praise, boast , be boastful. Knowing the God we have I can understand why in the short chapter of Psalm 150 Halal was used 13 times. Psalm 150 is a Psalm filled with praise in the Lord.
Psalm 150
Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: Praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his might acts:praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
I have been doing a book on memory versus the last couple weeks and one of the memory versus was Psalm 150. At first I was just reading it to memorize it but then I remembered something my husband told me on how to best memorize scripture. You picture it in your mind, not just the words, but what does it mean? What is happening? Paint the picture in your mind, play it out as you read the words, then the memorization becomes easier. When memorizing Psalm 150, I began to think about why we need to praise the Lord with instruments and dance? What are his might acts? Well he has so many! This Psalm was written before Jesus which is always are go to for an amazing act God should be praised for, but he did mighty acts before Jesus (though for us today Jesus’ sacrifice is the most important). God created life, he saved the Jews from slavery in Egypt, parted the Red sea, gave his people manna from heaven and water from a rock. He has done so much, so many great and wondrous things and we forget how great our God really is.
God deserves all the praise we can give him. Praise with music, singing, shouting, the sounds of many instruments. The music can be beautiful or just be shouts of praise. I think we forget how amazing God is! We get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget that our Heavenly Father created this life, he created the trees, the flowers and the birds. He created life and most importantly love. He created us for his glory and sent his son here to die on the cross and pay the penalty for our sins so we could spend eternity in heaven with him. I wish there was something even greater then just Praise for our wonderful and glorious God.
Psalm 150 is only 6 short versus, but it is filled with much deserved praise for our Father in heaven. So next time your listening to a song, or watching a bee buzz over the beautiful spring flowers, or giving your grandmother a warm hug, remember to praise God. He is in all of these things, he is the creator of all of these things! Feel God’s presence as you take in those moments and lift praise up to him, he more than deserves it!
